Enjoy Lanzarote’s endless beaches in the winter sun

From the amazing geysers of Timanfaya National Park, to the Aquapark in Costa Teguise and the old fishing village of Arrieta, there are so many things to do in Lanzarote. However, the main reason people visit in the winter is to relax under guaranteed sunshine on some of the most beautiful beaches in the Canary Islands.

Stunning sands line the main resorts of Puerto del Carmen, Playa de los Pocillos, Costa Teguise and Playa Blanca, with the perfect shores for water sports.

The unique beaches in Lanzarote have a colour spectrum all of their own, from bright white, to golden yellow, to jet black. They certainly make for some interesting holiday photos, that’s for sure!

Here are our top beach recommendations for some seasonal sunshine – perfect for those looking to plan early…

Playa Grande

Playa Grande Lanzarote

Lanzarote is well-known for its black sands, but Playa Grande in the south of the island is one long golden beach. In the heart of the Puerto del Carmen resort this is one of the most popular stretches of sand on the island with striped umbrellas and sun beds for all. The scenic palm-lined promenade is filled with shops, bars and restaurants just waiting for you to investigate.

Playa de la Garita

However, the locals prefer Playa de la Garita in Arrieta. The water is shallow – perfect for children – and the beach is a great choice for anyone looking to easily freshen up from the hot winter sun. The beach is Blue Flag certified and is also popular with surfers. If you want to try your hand at snorkelling there are plenty of sea creatures under the jetty just waiting to be discovered.

Playa de las Cucharas

Playa de las Cucharas

There are some strong currents on this northern beach particularly – making it perfect for anyone learning to windsurf, but not so good for any beginner swimmers.  In Playa de las Cucharas, part of the Costa Teguise resort, you’ll also find reefs to explore, restaurants to enjoy and hammock rentals to relax in too.

Playa Blanca

Playa Blanca

The south of Lanzarote is particularly warm in winter meaning just as many visitors flock during those months as they do in the summer. Playa Blanca, on the southernmost tip, is a perfect choice for families and romantic breaks as there are two sheltered beaches for the kids and many secluded bays where couples can enjoy some privacy. Keen Spanish speakers will already have realised that the name literally translates as ‘White Beach’, so you know you’re going to find a good looking beach here!

So, which beach would be your first port of call in Lanzarote?
