A Couples Holiday in Lanzarote: Puerto del Carmen, or Costa Teguise?

Wherever you choose to holiday in Lanzarote with your loved one, you can be sure of a good time. However, couples sometimes have trouble deciding between the island’s two main towns – Puerto del Carmen and Costa Teguise. Each place has its own charms.

Fear not because help is at hand. We’re going to take you through the pluses of both destinations so that you can make the right decision and enjoy the perfect couples holiday for you on this gem of an island.

Puerto del Carmen

A mere 20 minutes by car from the island’s capital, Arrecife, and only 15 minutes from the airport, Puerto del Carmen is just the ticket if you’re looking for an upbeat, energetic kind of couples holiday. You can also cosy up together all year round, as the town’s temperature hangs around 14 to 20 degrees Celsius, even in December, making it a reliable location for a winter break.

Vibrant nightlife

If you’re the kind of couple that likes to get out and dance the night away, rather than spend a quiet night in the hotel, Puerto del Carmen is the town for you. Out of the two towns, Puerto del Carmen boasts a slightly livelier nightlife than Costa Teguise. Several of the clubs stay open well into the early hours: some enjoy being open so much they don’t close until dawn. There’s also plenty of cafes and restaurants to refuel after all those hours tearing it up on the dance floor to top party tunes.

Active in the oceans

Imagine swimming hand in hand with your loved one, seeing exotic marine life glide by. That’s possible in Puerto del Carmen with a spot of scuba diving or snorkelling. Or perhaps you’ve always wanted to try your hand at hopping on a board to pit your wits against the waves? Here, you can try some kitesurfing, windsurfing or traditional surfing or at one of the specialist schools in the region.

Costa Teguise

Situated almost a hop, a skip and a jump from the capital at just 15 minutes away, the coastal Costa Teguise is one of the bigger town of Lanzarote. If you’re looking for sunshine in the winter, Costa Teguise edges it ever so slightly with temperatures of 15 to 21 degrees Celsius in December. Oh so close!

Calm waters

Costa Teguise is more the place for keen swimmers and sun bathers, as its main beach, Playa Jablillo, is one of the best beaches on the island for pure relaxation. The average temperature of Lanzarote’s waters in December are 20°C and the coastal sea at this particular spot is calm and clear, making it ideal for swimming. The beach is also sheltered in a cove, transforming it into a cosy little spot to cuddle up to one another!

Closer to culture

Costa Teguise gives you the option to add a little bit of extra culture to your couples holiday. You’ll be just 10 minutes away from the home of one of the island’s favourite sons, the late artist and architect César Manrique. Manrique was a staunch defender of the environment of Lanzarote, and nature is a big theme in his work. His home, which was also his studio, reflects his ideals.
